Day 13

Not Quite No.1

Advent13We all have our favourite Christmas songs. Come November and you can’t walk into a shopping centre without hearing them. But only a few can ever be the Christmas Number One.

You may be surprised by those that have never managed to reach the top spot.

For example, The Pogues’ Fairytale of New York. That’s got to have been number one, surely? Well, no. Even though it has been in the top 20 eleven times, the highest it ever achieved is number two 27 years ago. Tragic!

And how about I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day by Wizzard. Surprisingly, this has been in the top 40 only six times, with a highest position in 1973 of number four. To be fair, its competition that year was Slade’s Merry Xmas Everybody. But, what an injustice!
